Welcoming February

Can you believe January has already ended? It seems like each year, time just flies by faster. We are still holding onto hope for snow this winter, but the sunshine we’ve been having this week has me looking forward to spring!

February 1st is the half way point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. It is a little reminder that spring is only a few weeks away. Many people may associate this month with Valentine’s Day, but there are other meanings in February and it is a time to prepare for the warmer months ahead.

As the sun is getting brighter, the earth is warming up, and life is beginning to awaken. I can literally feel the Earth’s energy coming to life, and I am excited to see what this new season of growth will bring us! Now is the perfect time to start considering what seeds you with plant this year, both literally and metaphorically.

Even though Spring is not here yet, it’s time to get a start on cleaning your living space. Spring brings an atmosphere of freshness and new life, welcome that into your home by decluttering, redecorating, and making space for new beginnings!

While you tidy up your space, light a candle to welcome the returning of the sun, having a bonfire is also a great way to do this. Maybe there is some cleaning up around your yard or garden that needs done and you can end the night gathered around the warmth of an outdoor fire. This is a time for letting go of things in your life that no longer serve you, make a list of all the things you wish to let go, and burn it in the fire to symbolize your fresh start for the seasons to come.

This is a perfect time to cleanse and purify your space as well. My favorite way to do this is by smudging. Smudging is a great way to clear your home or self of negative energy. My favorite smudge stick to use is Sage, but I also keep cedar, mugwort, and Palo Santo on hand. Palo Santo is a wood to burn instead of an herb. I love the woodsy smell with sweet notes of pine, mint and lemon. Here is a great variety pack if you want to try them all.

These are just a few ways to celebrate the beginning of February. We have had some great weather this week and I’ve been able to turn the heater off and let some fresh, crisp air into the house. I’ve been cleaning up my house plants, buying a couple more, and planning an herb garden and some container vegetable gardens to start this spring! The energy awakening in the Earth and atmosphere is really getting my nesting instinct to kick in. We need to get our house clean and ready to welcome the new member of our family.

I hope you all have a blessed February and find a way to enjoy the coming of Spring! It will be here before you know it!
